VIP visit to NHS Talent Academy

Lincolnshire’s NHS Talent Academy, set up in 2015 by Claire Flavell has been used by various students across St George's Academy since its formation. The Talent Academy is the only one of its kind in the UK that organises and co-ordinates work experience placement, both clinical and non-clinical within the NHS.

Recently, Sir Keith Pearson, the Chief Executive of Health Education England visited Lincoln County Hospital to look at the range of initiatives being offered by the Talent Academy.

Claire Flavell, the Strategic Lead at the Talent Academy asked our Careers Officer, Miss Jarvis and 2 students to attend the meeting to portray to Sir Keith the requirements from students and schools and the benefits of gaining work experience within the NHS. Miss Jarvis chose Daniella and Alice, both who have had work experience placements provided by the Talent Academy.

Alice was given a provisional offer from two universities to study Radiography which required her to have proof of a Radiography placement. The Talent Academy provided her with a placement in the Radiography department at a local hospital and Alice duly got offers from both universities.

Daniella is considering working in the Health Service, either as a nurse or a Paramedic and has had 2 placements at hospitals in Lincolnshire, both of which will be invaluable for her university applications.

Both Alice and Daniella spoke at length to Sir Keith who complimented them on how articulate, intelligent and mature they were and a shining example of teenagers of today. St George’s staff are proud of both students for being such excellent ambassadors for St George’s Academy.
