SlamJam Finalists Take To The Stage
Following a year of competition, the SlamJam 2018 Finals took place in a packed theatre at the Lincoln Performing Arts Centre (LPAC) at the University of Lincoln.
SlamJam is a performance based writing competition for secondary school students. Choosing to write a poem, a story or a dramatic monologue, they need to consider the effect they want to have on an audience, and craft their writing accordingly. There are few rules, but performances must last no longer than 3 minutes; and no costumes or props are allowed. It is all about the quality of the writing, and of the performance. Working through a series of heats, three of our best wordsmiths made it all the way to this year’s Grand Final.
As an added bonus they spent the morning in a workshop, run by poet and author Jess Green, before rehearsing on stage in the auditorium for their night time performances. Unfortunately we did not take home the top prize but our Academy representatives were enthusiastic, well-mannered and grasped every opportunity to work cohesively with other students from other schools. We are so proud of them and their achievement.
Huge congratulations to Hannah, Louise & Nancy. Keep up the good work, and we look forward to hearing more of our student’s compositions next year.
