FA Celebrate Girls Football
Each year the FA organise a special week to celebrate girls football. As well as a road show travelling around the country, many schools run mini tournaments. St George’s Academy hosted two of these, an Under 13s and Under 15s competition.
The under 13s tournament was a fantastic event, despite torrential rain throughout. 10 local teams were pitted against each other, consisting of 3 groups leading to a semi-final, and final. As always KGGS and KSHS proved difficult opponents and both made it through to the semi-final. However it was St George’s Academy and KSHS who fought it out for top honours. After a nail biting game, it all finished 0-0, and St George’s sadly lost out on penalties.
The weather improved dramatically, for the Under 15s tournament but this time we had 8 experienced teams with some strong line ups. The semi-final pitted KSHS vs KGGS, and SGA vs Deepings, and as per the U13s, it resulted in St George’s Academy vs KSHS in the final and after 0-0 it was again down to penalties. Once again, KSHS won (congratulations) but we now know what we need to practice for next year.
Well done to all the students and staff who came out to play and support. What a fantastic event.
